Odisha Launches App To Collect Data On Road Accidents
Bhubaneswar: Padmanabha Behera, Odisha's Commerce and Transport Minister, has released an Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) application to collect accident data on the spot.
The new software is part of a World Bank-backed effort led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH).
The software will also aid in the investigation of traffic accident causes and the reduction of fatalities.
The minister said at the opening on Sunday that the program's goal is to keep a national database of traffic accidents. To improve road safety in Odisha, the app would aid in the establishment of reliable and uniform incident data collecting.
The analysis result would be represented by the system through a monitoring and reporting dashboard and an analytics dashboard for easy understanding and decision-making by apex authorities for the formation of new policies and plans.
Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport Madhu Sudan Padhi, speaking on the occasion, said that these descriptions will help the government reform driving rules and road conditions, ensure safety measures on district roads and highways, and create conditions for the prompt disposal of registered road accident cases.
Police, Transport, Public Works Department (PWD), and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) would be able to utilise their cell phones to capture accident data on the scene and facilitate quick information exchange.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has assigned District Roll-out Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport Manager (DRM) in each district to oversee the application's implementation and training.
The project was also begun in Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana, in addition to Odisha.
