Jeypore: Panic gripped villagers of Jhinkirikarili hamlet in Odisha's Koraput district after reports of a cattle carcass and maybe tiger pugmarks in the region.

According to sources, a regal Bengal tiger was observed a few weeks ago near the Pottangi and Bandhugaon blocks on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border. It has since relocated to the Ananthagiri highlands in the Araku region.

"The tiger has been spotted in the jungles of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh." It was previously seen in areas bordering Kotia, and its presence has been reported near Bandhugaon. "The department is on high alert, and locals have been asked to remain vigilant," Koraput divisional forest officer (DFO) Amita Rani Ray told TNIE.

Since September 23, the tiger has been skulking around the region. "On November 23, it was discovered near Ananthagiri hills, bordering Nandapur block of Koraput district, after leaving the Kotia bordering area." According to Uma Mahesh, assistant conservator of forests for the Koraput forest division, the tiger is on its way back and should be out of the area in the next several days.

Meanwhile, CCTV cameras have been set to monitor the tiger's activities, and 30 forest personnel and a special tiger tracking squad have been deployed to warn locals of its existence. "We are in continual contact with our counterparts in the neighboring state, and the tiger's current location is being recorded," he continued.

After a tiger was spotted in the vicinity last month, the district administration issued a warning to the inhabitants of Tadivalsa. "The forest department held village-level meetings to raise awareness of the tiger." "They were warned not to go deep inside or take their cattle into the forest," Koraput collector Abdaal M Akhtar said.
