Another BJP leader has resigned from the party ahead of the Odisha rural elections

Bhubaneswar: Former Champua MLA Dhanurjaya Sidu resigned from the BJP on Friday, just days before the rural elections in Odisha. He'll almost certainly join the ruling BJD.

He served as a Congress MLA from 2004 to 2009 and ran unsuccessfully for the BJP in the 2019 elections in Telkoi.

On October 29, state executive member Biswaranjan Mallick left the saffron party and joined the BJD, dealing a blow to the saffron party. Ramesh Chandra Parida, another BJP politician from Jajpur, joined the regional party in September.

The BJD appears to be on a poaching spree in preparation for the upcoming panchayat and municipal elections. Panchayat elections are expected in January and February 2022.

On Saturday, a former Congress MP from Nabarangpur would join the Conch party.

In the last month, he has become the third Congress politician from the tribal-dominated Koraput area, a longstanding bastion of the Grand Old Party, to defect to the government side.

On October 20, former MLA Kailash Chandra Kulesika joined the Conch party. He served in the state legislature representing the Laxmipur district from 2014 to 2019, when he was defeated by a razor-thin margin of only 299 votes.

Chandrasekhar Majhi, a former Congress MLA from Kotpad, joined the BJD on September 15.
