LIC Agent Who Insured Lives Of Ghosts In Odisha arrested by EOW

Bhubaneswar: A LIC agent, who reportedly made death claims in the name of deaths from a policy of death, is arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch.
The EOW, under the Kanas policing boundaries in Puri district, apprehended the agent, Kabiraj Behera, from Jhadakata and brought him before Court on Thursday. On the basis of a complaint filed by the authorised officer of the Khurda branch of LIC, the EOW was arrested after investigating a case.
The accusation indicated that Behera had betrayed the LIC by making fake death claims on the conspiracies of the deceased's nominees in the Rs 1.18 crore.
The EOW investigation found that Behera, who since 2003 has been a LIC agent, had managed, in 2013 to 2019, to illegally implement 23 policies on the behalf of four deceased people.
He designed phoney death certificates on behalf of insured individuals after 3 or 5 years after acquiring these policies. Behera requested death claims for the nominees at the LIC branch in Khurda and tried to take cash benefits/death claims against those 23 policies by presenting these phoney death certificates as real.
The insurance policies were made after an insured person's real death, but the payment was paid periodically. It was determined Without referring to a divisional office, the amount promised was purposely maintained below Rs 10 lakhs in all policy areas, as the financial power of the management is to satisfy the death benefits.
The entire sum of claims made by the nominees from 23 policies by the current accused was determined to be greater than Rs 1.81 crores and, in line with the release of the European Union (EOW), LIC has issued payments against five policies.
