Man Killed for suspected ‘Witchcraft’ In Rayagada

Rayagada: In a tragic occurrence, an elderly man was allegedly murdered by the locals in a village in the Rayagada district of Odisha on suspicion of practising witchcraft late Wednesday night.

Sources claim that when Dai Majhi's family was asleep, some residents of Titiguda village in the Kashipur block came into his home and attacked them.

During the vicious attack, Dai passed away instantly, but his two kids, Durya and Lalu Majhi, suffered serious injuries. Later, other people took them to the hospital in Tikiri.

A squad from the Tikiri police station proceeded to Titiguda after receiving word from Majhi's family members and sent the body for a post-mortem. "We've taken someone into custody in relation to the incident. More research is being done, SDPO Dibyajyoti Das informed the reporters.

One of Dai Majhi's relatives, Lalu Majhi, claimed he refrained from helping Dai's family out of fear of violence. "The incident happened after 10 o'clock. The event involved Dina Majhi, Mana Majhi, Naba Majhi, Bhima Majhi, and Rajib Majhi from the hamlet, according to Lalu.
