CBI conducts raids at office, house of industrialist Mahima Mishra in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The businessman Mahimananda Mishra's properties, including his home and office in several locations in Cuttack and Paradip, were searched by the CBI on Thursday.
According to sources, CBI teams have been conducting searches at the Odia Bazaar in Cuttack and the offices of Odisha Stevedores Limited on Link Road and Badapadi in Paradip for more than two hours.
Why the raids are being carried out is still a mystery. The Paradip Port Trust, whose officers are also being questioned, is reportedly the subject of some allegations of impropriety, according to reports.
According to additional sources, CBI investigators questioned Sumant Rout, a contractor, and Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Paradip Port Saroj Kumar Das at The 100 Millions in relation to a bribery investigation. The contractor allegedly offered a bribe to the senior official. One hundred and eighty thousand rupees were taken from the engineer's office, and fifty thousand rupees more from the contractor.
The sources continued, "The CBI team also looked over certain paperwork at Mishra's Cuttack office and spoke with him about this."
Notably, the Orissa High Court in November 2019 granted the industrialist bail in connection with the murder of Mahendra Swain, a manager of the Hyderabad-based stevedoring firm Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited. He is charged with paying assassins to kill him.
On December 25, 2016, the Immigration Police of Thailand detained him in Bangkok. Mishra, some of his family, and a few security personnel entered Thailand from Nepal on a tourist visa, according to the Bangkok Post. Following the murder of Swain, Mishra and his companion Basant Bal fled to Kathmandu on a 15-day tourist visa, according to confirmation from the Odisha police.
