NABARD Sanctions ₹220.50 Cr to Odisha for flood protection projects

Bhubaneswar: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved Rs 220.50 crore in Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) funding for 57 flood prevention projects and a rural bridge in Odisha.
According to sources, these projects will benefit two credit-stressed districts in Kendrapada and Nuapada, four aspirational districts in Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Rayagada, six Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected districts in Balangir, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Rayagada, and eight disaster-affected districts in Balangir, Boudh, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Sonepur.
The Department of Water Resources (DOWR- Major & Medium) will construct one rural bridge to safeguard and restore river banks at 57 specified lengths on 32 distinct rivers/creeks to restore and stabilise agricultural land, standing crops, and flood relief activities.
Notably, the major work includes repairing and strengthening washed-out river banks for 50.69 kilometres, construction of launching aprons and stone packing of embankment slopes, raising and strengthening of embankments (107.74 kilometres), construction of CC guard wall, etc., construction of 93 new branches, and provision of BT road on embankments for a total length of 57.78 kilometres.
The proposal also includes the construction of a box cell bridge over Sankha creek in Jagatsinghpur district, with sluices to prevent saline ingress into farmlands at Patua and Baghadi, respectively.
