Municipality Chairperson Throws File At Officer in Odisha

Jajpur: During a meeting, the Chairperson of Byasanagar Municipality in Odisha's Jajpur district allegedly screamed verbal abuse and tossed a file at the civic body's executive officer.
A viral video showed Municipality Chairperson Sangita Pingua yelling at executive officer Ashok Kumar Rout in front of several people, including council members, about concerns connected to the placement of a cell tower.
An enraged Pingua was also seen tossing a file at the officer and demanding that he leave her room and immediately withdraw the NOC granted for the placement of the tower in the civic area's ward number 8.
In clarifying the situation that allegedly occurred on Tuesday, the Chairperson later stated that she had no intention of throwing the file at the officer.
Pingua stated that because Rout was sitting at a distance, she just tried to transfer the file on to him.
The residents of Ward 8 had sought permission from the municipality for the installation of the mobile tower, according to Rout, who added that the NOC was given after field verification.
Others, however, later objected to the tower's construction and approached the Municipality Chairperson. Some individuals also gheraoed her workplace and house in protest, according to Piugua, who added that the meeting was arranged to discuss the issue and she was irritated by Rout's answer.
The executive officer, who was relocated to Khandapada following the incident, stated that the Chairperson was also upset about the installation of a biometric machine in the office, and that she had previously misbehaved with him.
The NOC for the tower was provided after adequate field verification in response to ward residents' petition, but the Chairperson wanted it cancelled when some people objected, he claimed.
