Odisha’s Padampur To Get District Status By end of 2023!

Bhubaneswar: After meeting with members of the action committee chaired by minister Niranjan Pujari, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised to grant district status to Padampur sub-division by December 31, 2023.
"The conversation was fruitful. The CM cannot make an announcement in this regard because the model code of conduct is in effect. "In his role as BJD president, he pledged that it will be included in the party manifesto," claimed a member of the group supporting the demand to separate Padampur district from Bargarh.
The committee members stated that the agitation will be called off if the BJD included the pledge in its election manifesto for the Padampur bypoll.
The demand gained traction in the run-up to the bypoll to the Padampur assembly constituency, planned for December 5, with sit-in dharnas, including one on Wednesday at the sub-collector office and near Paikamal Chhak, and the BJD backed it in its attempt to retain the seat.
The BJP, which also supports this long-standing demand, has labelled it a false assurance, similar to previous ones. "While the Bargarh sub-division is an irrigated and developed belt, the Padampur sub-division is prone to drought." Padampur would receive better government attention if it were constituted a district. "However, the administration has consistently ignored Padampur," BJP Padampur contender and former MLA Pradip Purohit remarked.
This happened a day after both the BJD and the BJP were seen racing to address farmers' concerns in the Padampur election. Farmers were protesting the nonpayment of crop insurance. While Naveen pledged Rs 200 crore in input support for drought-affected farmers in the state, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar ordered the Odisha government to disburse crop loss compensation to insured farmers swiftly.
Purohit had postponed filing the nomination on November 14 in order to express solidarity with the farmers.
