Naba Das murder case: ASI Gopal Das’ remand extended by four more days

Jharsuguda: The JMFC court in here on Saturday granted Crime Branch (CB) permission to remand Gopal Das, the sole accused in the assassination of Odisha Health Minister Naba Das, for another four days.

He appeared in court after his four-day remand had expired.

Meanwhile, the CB team, which is camped in Berhampur, has questioned Gopal's wife five times. Satya Das, the dismissed ASI's elder brother, nephew, relatives, friends, fellow villagers, and the doctor who treated him for psychological issues have all been questioned.

According to a statement issued by the investigating agency, handwriting experts are being enlisted to help re-arrange the 22 torn papers recovered from the septic tank of the Airport police station in Jharsuguda, where Gopal was detained. The accused has admitted that the handwriting on the documents was his. During searches of the accused's locked official quarters and office desk at Gandhi Chhak police outpost, some handwritten and printed documents and diaries were seized, it added.

The crime's motivation has yet to be determined. On the other hand, Gopal is said to have maintained that he was acting alone in his plan to eliminate Naba out of personal hatred.

Gopal shot at the minister in broad daylight in Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda district, on January 29, and he died later that evening at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Gopal allegedly wrote a confession, which he carried with him, fearing that he would be lynched or shot. The statement was written in red ink and was a combination of English and Odia.

Sunil Bansal, the DGP, stated on Friday that the case is being investigated with an open mind. "The CB probe is on the right path. "Investigators are following up on some leads," he added.
