Nabarangpur: 24 Govt teachers dismissed for unauthorised absence

Nabarangpur: At least 24 teachers in Odisha's Nabarangpur were fired for taking pay while being absent for numerous years.

They have been bunking duty without seeking for leave since 2010, according to sources. When the issue was brought to light, an investigation was launched, and the School and Mass Education Department directed the District Education Officer to take action against the absentees.

The district administration had written to all Block Education Officers, requesting that a report on the teachers be submitted by July 20, 2022.

Further investigation found that up to 31 teachers were absent and were presented with show-cause notices. Meanwhile, before the show cause notice was issued, it was reported that a Kosagumuda block teacher had resigned.

Only six instructors were able to save their jobs by providing valid reasons for their absence, while the remaining 24 teachers did not answer. As a result, Nabarangpur collector Kamal Lochan Mishra fired them on the orders of District Education Officer Pradeep Kumar Nag.

"There were 31 of these absentees. One of them had resigned from his job because he had found a better one elsewhere. The remaining 30 teachers have received show-cause notices. Six teachers answered, but the remaining 24 either did not show up or did not respond to the notices. So they've been fired," Nag explained.
