Niladri Bije: Lord Jagannath to appease Goddess Laxmi with rasagola

Puri: Today in Puri will mark Niladri Bije, the Rath Yatra's final rite. Lord Jagannath will return to the sanctuary sanctorum of Srimandir twelve days after leaving on their yearly journey with his siblings, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

After the Sandhya Dhoopa rites, the sacred deities will be transported in "Goti Pahandi" to the temple in accordance with custom.

Lord Sudarshan, who is revered in this location as Lord Krishna's sword, would be carried to the jewelled throne known as the Ratna Singhasan first, followed by Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. Goddess Laxmi seals the main door to the shrine to stop Lord Jagannath from entering. Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, however, enter without incident.

The servants of the deity and his consort goddess Mahalaxmi perform a traditional drama. Lord Jagannath is led to the Ratna Singhasan when the goddess finally agrees to let him into the shrine after much convincing.

On their respective chariots, the holy Trinity was offered "Adharapana" on Monday in earthen pitchers.
