Odisha CM announces Rs 10 Lakh each for Amit Rohidas, Nilam Sanjeep Xess

Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a Rs 10 lakh prize for each of the Odisha players in the India squad for the FIH Odisha Men's Hockey World Cup 2023, Amit Rohidas and Nilam Sanjeep Xess.

Both Rohidas and Xess made the Indian team, which will face Spain on Friday at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.

Rohidas is also the Indian team captain's deputy, reporting to Harmanpreet Singh. He has 127 caps and is always deployed as a backup defender on penalty corners. He has scored 18 international goals.

Sanjeep Xess, a native, defends the goal alongside Rohidas. Sanjeep Xess, who hails from Kadobahal hamlet, a few kilometers distant from the World Cup location, has 30 international caps and five goals.

"It will be a proud moment for Sundargarh, 'the Cradle of Hockey', when the two players get down to the middle of the pitch wearing India colours. "Every time Rohidas and Sanjeep Xess get the ball, the audience at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will undoubtedly rally behind them," an official release said.
