Odisha Police Shares Safety Tips For Making UPI Payments
Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, the Odisha Police released a few safety recommendations for residents to use to guard themselves against online frauds in light of the state's increasing number of cyber fraud cases.
The Odisha Police shared the "UPI safety shied" in a tweet along with the advice, "Never input the UPI PIN to receive money." Additionally, citizens have been urged to keep safety in mind when using UPI.
Here is some UPI safety advice from the Odisha police:
*When you enter the UPI PIN, your account will be debited. Receiving money DOES NOT need the UPI PIN.
*Before entering the UPI PIN, always double-check the recipient's name.
*On the UPI PIN screen of the app, use the UPI PIN ONLY. NEVER divulge the UPI PIN to anyone else.
*The purpose of scanning a QR Code is to make payments, NOT to receive cash.
*Don't do it if someone asks you to download an app for screen sharing or SMS forwarding without explaining its purpose.
The article advised that even if someone pretends to be a bank employee, you should never disclose your passwords, OTP, UPI PIN, URN, or CVV with them.
It is important to note that on September 21, DCP (Bhubaneswar) Prateek Singh also cautioned consumers to exercise caution when shopping online during the impending holiday season in order to avoid falling victim to cyber theft.
"With the approaching holiday season, cybercriminals will try to con you by promising lucrative schemes and rewards like raising credit card limits, gift certificates, lotteries, etc. Please don't take advantage of such offers, and stay away from links and sharing OTP with others, the man pleaded.
In the event that this occurs and you are defrauded, he advised calling the Bhubaneswar police's cyber helpline at 7440006709 right away.
