Bhadrak: After he was discovered on Thursday with Rs 5 lakh in bribe money, vigilance officers conducted raids on the official residence of a superintending engineer of the Bhadrak district of Odisha.

Srimanta Sethy, the district's supervising engineer for the Salandi Canal Division, is accused of accepting bribes from several contractors in exchange for approving those contractors' bogus invoices for various projects. The Vigilance sleuths apprehended them as he handed his brother-in-law Karunakar Sethy, a shopkeeper, the bribe money totaling Rs. 5 lakh.

The money was recovered and seized by the Vigilance officers. According to a Vigilance announcement, supervising engineer Sethy was unable to provide a satisfactory justification for the money that had been taken.

Following the interception, the Vigilance carried out concurrent searches of Sethy's properties at his official residence in B/5 Delta Colony, Unit VIII, Bhubaneswar, his home in Bhadrak Town, and his brother-in-residence law's in Khantapada, Balasore.
