Peddler caught with brown sugar worth Rs 32 lakh in Khordha

Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar STF and Khurda police confiscated 310 grammes of brown sugar worth Rs 32 lakh and detained a narcotics seller in yet another drug bust.

Rajkishore Sundray, a resident of Gurujanga in the Khurda Town police jurisdiction, was apprehended in front of Haladia College in Khurda.

The defendant was previously charged in a similar case in 2020 and was recently released on bail.

Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 44 kilogrammes of brown sugar/heroin and 87 quintals of ganja/marijuana and arrested more than 121 drug dealers/peddlers as part of a special anti-narcotics effort.

In the Puri district on Tuesday, 160 kg brown sugar worth roughly Rs 16 lakh was confiscated. The incident resulted in the arrest of two people.

On Friday, the West Bengal Police, with the assistance of the Odisha Excise Department, detained five narcotics dealers in Dum Dum, in the neighbouring state's North 24 Parganas district, and recovered 5 kilogramme brown sugar worth over Rs 5 crore from their possession. On the same day, a team of Odisha Police's Crime Branch's Special Task Force (STF) and Commissonerate Police detained three people in Bhubaneswar and seized over 40 kg of ganja from their possession.

In Dhenkanal district, over 1 kilogramme brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore was confiscated on December 21.
