Panchayat Poll Candidate’s Husband ‘Kidnapped’ In Sonepur

Sonepur: The husband of a panchayat samiti member was taken in the district on Monday evening, in yet another kidnapping of family of candidates for panchayat votes in the state.

According to a police report submitted by the candidate, Meena Deheri, while campaigning in Sakama village with her husband Rajesh Deheri, 10-12 supporters of her opponent candidate Basanti Das requested them to leave the village.

Basanti's followers are said to have misbehaved with Meena and chastised her in a derogatory manner. They also forcibly took Rajesh with them.

Meena later filed a complaint with the Binka police station, stating that Basanti's supporters kidnapped her husband. A police report has been filed, and an investigation has begun.

On January 31, the BJP's candidate for zilla parishad member of zone II in Malkangiri district, Pradip Kumar Madkami, was kidnapped, according to the party.

Similarly, in the last week of January, the son of a sarpanch candidate was allegedly kidnapped while campaigning for his father in Khurda district.
