Pradhan urges people to take Covid booster dose and remain safe

Bhubaneswar: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday urged the people of Odisha to receive a free preventative dosage of the vaccine during the 75-day special immunisation drive undertaken by the Center in order to further energise the fight against COVID in light of a recent spike in cases.

In response to the recent increase in COVID cases, Dharmendra noted in a video message that the Centre, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stressed the importance of stepping up the vaccination campaign in order to successfully stop the disease's spread.

"By giving out more than 200 crore vaccination shots in just 18 months, India has written history. Being a success story in the fight against COVID is something to be happy about, according to Pradhan, an Odisha native.

He added that India has strengthened its healthcare system and sped up the vaccination process in addition to making safe and effective COVID vaccines available, and that the painstaking labour of thousands of doctors, health workers, and scientists was crucial to this success story.

The Center has begun a 75-day special immunisation push to protect citizens from COVID on July 15. People over 18 years old are receiving vaccine doses at no cost, according to the Minister.

"However, Odisha has a lower immunisation rate for the preventive dose than the national average. According to the top BJP leader, 87% of the people in Odisha had not yet taken the booster dose.

Only 42,34,000 people in the state, according to Dharmendra, have received the precautionary dose, despite 3.23 crore people in the state having received the first and second doses of the vaccine as of August 4. Around 25% of people have not yet taken the second dose, he added, while 10% of elderly persons in Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Puri, and Angul have not yet taken the first dose.

"Vaccines are the only means of preventing COVID infection, which is feared to increase during the rainy season. Therefore, the vaccination should be administered right away to everyone who qualifies. They ought to advise others to take the prophylactic dose as soon as possible, said Dharmendra.
