Bhubaneswar: With sections of Odisha experiencing a cold wave, the temperature dropped to 5.3 degrees Celsius at Similiguda on Sunday morning, the lowest place in the state, followed by Phulbani and Kirie at 6.2 degrees Celsius, Keonjhar at 6.4 degrees Celsius, and G Udaygiri at 6.5 degrees.
Daringbadi, in Odisha's Kashmir, registered a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius. Jharsuguda (7.6), Sonepur (7.9), Boudh (8.5), Bhawanipatna and Koraput (9 degrees Celsius), Nuapada and Mahisapat (9.4 degrees Celsius), Balangir (9.5), Hirakud (9.6), and Ranital (9.6) were among the localities where the minimum temperature fell below 10 degrees Celsius.
As northwesterly dry and chilly winds invade the state, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre previously predicted that night temperatures will be 3-5 degrees Celsius below normal in various regions during the following two days.
It has issued a yellow alert for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, and Keonjhar until 8.30 a.m. on January 30.
During the next 24 hours, one or two sites in Jharsuguda, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, and Kalahandi are expected to feel the winter chill.
During this time, the minimum temperature will remain below normal in most parts of the state, but will gradually climb by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, according to the forecast.
