Tiger spotted again in Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary

Bargarh: A Royal Bengal Tiger was spotted in the Debrigarh wildlife reserve in Odisha's Bargarh district on Saturday for the second time in a month.

Several visitors on a jungle safari saw the big cat for over 30 minutes at a distance of 200 meters from the Debrigarh nature camp in the sanctuary's ecotourism zone.

The tiger's presence has been confirmed by Hirakud Wildlife Division. After receiving information, the forest authorities acted quickly to assure its safe prowling by setting up camera traps and other forms of surveillance.

"In the evening, visitors saw the tiger in the sanctuary's ecotourism area. We have taken a number of steps to safeguard the animal. Anshu Pragyan Das, DFO of the Hirakud Wildlife Division, assured the reporters that in the event of unauthorized entry, prompt action will be taken against the violators.

Das added that anyone who offers information regarding poachers, the setting up of traps, or unlawful hooking will receive a reward of Rs 1000.

Additionally, flyers advertising the reward money have been put up in the adjacent communities.

Numerous movie screenings are also being held in the villages as part of efforts to protect the big cat to educate locals on the fact that tigers do not harm people and actually promote forest growth.

There are many different types of plants and animals in the Debrigarh sanctuary. According to reports, the sanctuary is home to around 40 species of mammals, 200 species of birds, 40 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians, 42 species of fish, 39 species of odonates, 85 species of butterflies, and 38 species of spiders.

The young adult tiger that was seen on December 1 about 5 o'clock on the sanctuary's forest paths had happily surprised the state's naturalists. It's assumed to be male and to be around three years old.
