Vikram Deb College in Jeypore becomes University

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal to grant university status to the well-known Vikram Deb Autonomous College in Jeypore, Koraput district, which is one of the state's oldest educational institutions.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister expressed his delight that a long-standing demand of intellectuals and students in the undivided Koraput district has now been met.

On Friday, the college, which was part of Berhampur University, will celebrate its platinum jubilee.

Established in 1947 by Vikram Deo Verma, the former ruler of Jeypore, the college has played an important role in providing quality education in the region. The college was granted autonomy in 2004.

Apart from BBA, BCA, and B.Ed courses, the college currently offers 17 Post Graduate and as many Under Graduate programs. The educational institution now has around 4,000 students.
