Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, a man who was critically injured after allegedly being assaulted at a drug rehabilitation center in the Mancheswar area of Odisha's capital died from his injuries.

Sarbeswar Behera was allegedly thrashed by three people at the drug rehabilitation center in Bhotapada, according to sources. He was being treated at Hi-Tech Hospital when he died from his injuries, they said.

On Wednesday, the police arrested three people in connection with the incident after receiving a complaint from the deceased's wife, Urmila Behera. Anirudha Ray (30), Ankit Rout (25), and Antaryami Mishra were identified as the three (25).

In addition, a wooden plank was taken from their possession. The trio used it to commit the crime.

According to sources, Sarbeswar was a habitual alcoholic, and his wife had him admitted to the 'Sai Kripa' drug rehabilitation center on January 27. The main accused agreed to assist her and took Rs 7000 from her.

She later learned that the accused had brutally beaten up her husband and admitted him to Hi-Tech Hospital. She rushed to the hospital to find her husband in the intensive care unit, where he later died from his injuries.

Police registered a case and brought the three to court after receiving a complaint from the deceased's wife. After the court denied their bail requests, they were taken into judicial custody.
