Apple has announced that it will start production of iPhone 16 PRO and Pro Max in India, moving it out of China.

Apple Inc. is planning to produce the Pro and Pro Max versions of its upcoming iPhone 16 series in India for the first time. This will be done in collaboration with Foxconn as part of Apple's strategy to expand its manufacturing beyond China. Foxconn will soon begin the New Product Introduction (NPI) process for these Pro models at its Tamil Nadu plant, with mass production expected to start after the phone's official launch. According to Moneycontrol, Apple has been considering producing Pro models in India for several years and aims to make these models available for purchase in the country post-launch. Initially, some iPhone 16 units may be imported, with locally manufactured versions expected to be available within the financial year. Apple is getting ready to produce 90 million iPhone 16 units for 2024, which represents a 10% increase over the iPhone 15 series. In 2023, Apple shipped over 10 million iPhones in India, where it currently holds a 6% market share.
