Pabitra Kumar Sethi, a medical officer at Danagadu Community Health Centre in Odisha's Jajpur district, and Abhiram Kandi, a security guard at the state-run healthcare center, were arrested on bribery charges on Wednesday.
Jajpur: Pabitra Kumar Sethi, a medical officer at Danagadu Community Health Centre in Odisha's Jajpur district, and Abhiram Kandi, a security guard at the state-run healthcare center, were arrested on bribery charges on Wednesday.
They were allegedly caught taking Rs 20,000 to conduct a postmortem examination on the complainant's father, who died on March 31 due to lightning.
The government scheme provides an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in lightning strikes, and the complainant was required to submit a copy of the postmortem report with the application. Sethi postponed the process and instead demanded Rs 20,000 in order to complete the report. The complainant then approached Odisha Vigilance.
The doctor was then apprehended for accepting the bribe money through the security guard. According to an official release, the entire bribe money was recovered from him.
While a case has been filed against Sethi under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 1988, searches are being conducted at three different locations to uncover his alleged disproportionate assets.
