Berhampur: A team of doctors at MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Berhampur, Odisha, successfully removed a crowbar that had pierced a 17-year-old boy's pelvis and was stuck in his abdomen.

Shakti Pataguru of Talasubranapur village, within Kotgarh police limits in Kandhamal district, underwent an hour-long surgery.

The boy had slipped and fell on the crowbar while removing damaged asbestos sheets from the roof of Talasubranapur village's government upper primary school, where he had been hired by a contractor for renovation work.

He was taken to Baliguda hospital, where doctors referred him to the MKCG MCH in Berhampur. "It was a critical operation because we had to remove the rod without harming other parts of the patient's body," said assistant professor I Gopal, who led the surgical team. Meanwhile, Kotgarh police have filed a report and begun an investigation into the incident.
