Balasore: On Saturday, the half-burned body of a woman was discovered on the terrace of her in-laws' house in mysterious circumstances in a village in Odisha's Balasore district.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Jainagar village in the district's Bhograi block. Mili Parida, Hemant Parida's daughter-in-law, has been identified as the deceased.

While the woman's in-laws claimed she committed suicide by setting herself on fire on their house's terrace, the deceased's family claimed she was murdered for dowry.

Following notification, a team of Bhograi police officers rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and several people in the village have been questioned.

Tensions were high in the area because the exact cause of the woman's death under mysterious circumstances had yet to be determined.

Mili married Hemant's son Bhagirathi seven years ago, according to villagers, and the couple has a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
