Bhubaneswar: Balasore Police have arrested eight more people from various locations in connection with the Odisha Staff Selection Commission's (OSSC) JE (Civil) Main written examination.
According to sources, police have arrested a total of 25 people as a result of this, including the alleged mastermind of the question paper leak. New arrests were reported to have been made in various districts of Odisha.
The Balasore Police had initially arrested nine people from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar in the Digha area of West Bengal, and eight more were arrested on July 27 in connection with the racket.
Following Balasore SP's confirmation that question papers had been leaked, the OSSC cancelled the Main written examination for JE (Civil) scheduled for July 16, 2023 on July 23.
The Commission has also rescheduled the examination for September 3, this year.
Angry over the incident, a large number of aspirants demonstrated in front of the OSSC office, demanding harsh punishment for the staff and officials implicated in the scam.
The accused is accused of leaking the question paper in exchange for large sums of money from 88 aspirants.
SP Balasore Sagarika Nath previously stated that the question papers were obtained from a printing press outside the state. The question paper was supplied by the press assistant to the mastermind, who is a Bihar government employee working as a divisional accountant in the Accountant General's office. The press assistant's brother was an acquittance of the mastermind, and they shared a village. He had been communicating with the assistant for the past two months, hoping to obtain some question papers. She had stated that he was not specifically targeting OSCC.
