Security forces eliminated three terrorists involved in an attack on an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector on Monday, October 28. The 27-hour operation concluded early Tuesday morning.
The encounter began when terrorists targeted an Army ambulance traveling in a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC). One terrorist was neutralized by the evening.
The remaining two terrorists were killed on Tuesday morning near the Assan temple in Jogwan village during a final assault. After a quiet night, the Army and police launched a renewed offensive at 7 a.m. Following intense gunfire, the remaining terrorists were eliminated within two hours. The operation utilized BMP-II infantry vehicles, special forces, and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, along with aerial support from helicopters and drones.
A significant casualty in the operation was Phantom, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois service dog, who died after sustaining injuries while drawing enemy fire. The Army expressed their respect, stating, "We salute the supreme sacrifice of our true hero—a valiant Indian Army Dog, Phantom. As our troops were closing in on the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire and sustained fatal injuries. His courage, loyalty, and dedication will never be forgotten."
After round-the-clock surveillance throughout the night, an intense firefight took place on Tuesday morning, resulting in a significant victory for our forces. The relentless operations and tactical excellence led to the elimination of the three terrorists. The operation also successfully recovered war-like stores, marking a critical step in maintaining security in the region. Additionally, the body of one terrorist, along with weapons, was recovered.
