Rourkela: Following a spat with his wife, a man in Odisha's Rourkela was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his 5-year-old son and hanging the body.
The accused has been identified as Rajesh Lakra (26), a resident of the Sheetalpada slum in the city's Udit Nagar police limits.
According to sources, he took this drastic measure after his wife left the house on Thursday. Sukanti Majhi, a neighbor, told the media that the accused had visited her with his son, Arya, on Friday afternoon with a request to file a FIR because his wife had eloped with someone.
She went on to say that Rajesh was under a lot of stress because he had borrowed money and told his neighbors that his son had been murdered. "This morning, we discovered his child's body inside the house, draped with a dupatta." He would have fled if he had killed him," she added.
His wife, Gunu (24), on the other hand, blamed Raju. "The day before yesterday, we had a disagreement over some issues." I left for my sister's house because he wouldn't let me take Arya with me. "He murdered my son today," the grieving mother claimed.
The couple had been married for seven years and worked as daily wagers.
According to police sources, the accused suspected his wife's fidelity and committed the crime with the intent of framing her for the murder. When Gunu failed to return home on Friday night, Rajesh became enraged and strangled the child to death with his mother's scarf before hanging the body. He then left the house, falsely informing his neighbors that his wife had murdered their son upon his return this morning.
According to reports, Lakra confessed to the crime and told the investigating officer that he saw his wife riding a two-wheeler with another man and that she purposefully ignored his calls.
According to the sources, he was arrested for murder after his wife filed a complaint.
