The deceased, Ravindra Meher of Jamaghati village in the Baunsuni police station limits, had gone to the jail's washroom after dinner.
According to reports, some inmates discovered his body hanging from the bathroom ceiling with a towel. While it is suspected that the prisoner committed suicide, the exact cause has yet to be determined.
Following notification, a police team rushed to the jail and recovered the body, which was then sent for post-mortem examination to the district headquarters hospital. (DHH).
Meher was arrested in 2015 in connection with a murder investigation. In 2018, he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison by a court.
According to sources, Ravindra was also receiving treatment for mental illness.
