Bhubaneswar: Nearly five years after being arrested in a Rs 1 lakh bribery case, Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer Prasanta Kumar Rout has been charged with amassing disproportionate assets.

He is currently working as an additional sub-collector in Nabarangpur.

On Friday, Vigilance sleuths recovered Rs 500 notes worth over Rs 2 crore stashed in six cartons during raids at nine locations, including a double-story building in Bhubaneswar's Kanan Vihar, Rout's residential house and office chamber in Nabarangpur, his parental house in Bhadrak's Bahudarada village, and five other locations of his acquittals.

According to sources, he was in possession of several important documents, bank passbooks, and ATM cards.

More information is awaited.

Rout was arrested in 2018 for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe from Jhirpani's Executive Officer in exchange for administrative approval of a Rs 11.50 lakh project. He was working as a Block Development Officer (BDO) in the Sundargarh district at the time.
