Hyderabad: On Monday night, a female student at the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) was discovered hanging in her hostel room.

Mamitha Nayak (21), an Odisha native, has been identified. She started her first year of MTech at the institute last month.

Her batchmates discovered her hanging from the ceiling fan last night and alerted the hostel authorities, according to reports. Sangareddy police were called, and the body was moved for an autopsy. A suicide note allegedly written by her was discovered in her room. Mamitha stated in the letter that she was taking the extreme step due to mental stress.

A case has been filed, and further investigation is underway.

This is the second suicide attempt by an IIT-H student in less than a month. D Karthik (21) committed suicide by drowning in the sea in Visakhapatnam because he was depressed about his backlogs. On July 25, his body was discovered on the beach.
