Bhawanipatna: A woman and her three sons were sentenced to life in prison for murdering a man five years ago in a village in Odisha's Kalahandi district over a land dispute.
In 2018, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) of Dharmagarh convicted the four and sentenced them to life in prison for the murder in the district's Atigaon village.
The court also imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on each of the four convicts. If they do not pay the fine, they will be sentenced to an additional year in prison.
The woman, Kuchita Dandasena, and her three sons were on trial for the murder of Chayakanta Dandasena, an employee of the Revenue Inspector's (RI) office in Atigaon, Junagarh police limits. He allegedly objected to the mother and her three sons' illegal construction.
According to the prosecution, Chayakanta was hacked to death by the woman's three sons - Radhu, Pita, and Jadu - after their mother Kuchita gave them the order. After arresting all four people, the police opened a murder investigation.
