Odisha man living in a hut for 50 years urges the government for a new house.

Naveen Patnaik of the Biju Janata Dal was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Odisha. He started his term in 2000 and was finally dethroned in 2024. Mohan Charan Majhi is the new Chief Minister of Odisha after the oath ceremony on June 12. Under Naveen Patnaik's 24-year rule, Odisha saw infrastructure development while catering to the needs of the poor in the state. However, many complained that they were deprived of various government schemes. Whether it was allowances, rations, or housing schemes, the real beneficiaries have been left behind. A vivid example is Khirod Das of Oostpur Village in Cuttack who has been living in a hut for over 50 years.

Khirod Das of Oostpur village under Umar Panchayat of Mahanga has been living in a hut for more than fifty years. He has been making a living with his daily income. He lives with his father, mother, and daughter. Das earns Rs 300 per day and spends this money to treat his parents who are suffering from illness. The remaining part of the money is spent on his daughter’s education. He has been requesting a new house from the government under the housing scheme. He calls his life living in misery.

Even after informing the local Sarpanch, the panchayat allegedly didn’t take any decision on this matter. Khirod Das has requested the new government for the house.

The newly formed government in Odisha recently announced the ‘Subhadra Yojna’ during the state assembly election. The main objective of Subhadra Yojana is to support women belonging to low-income group families so that they can empower their families financially. Every eligible woman in Odisha will get financial assistance of Rs 50,000 under Subhadra Yojna.
