Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected Malkangiri district on Thursday and directed Collector Asish Iswar Patil to submit the damage assessment report within seven days. During the survey, Majhi was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-SRC DK Singh, and also held a meeting with Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, Malkangiri MLA Narasingh Madkami, the collector, and SP Nitesh Wadhwani at the zilla parishad conference hall.

Majhi emphasized the need for accurate damage assessment and fast delivery of compensation for affected residents, ensuring that no flood-affected person is deprived of government assistance. He also highlighted the top priorities for the administration, which included repairing kutcha houses, restoring power supply, and providing safe drinking water to prevent water-borne diseases. The chief minister commended the preparedness of the district and police administration, which resulted in zero casualties.

Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the early warning system enabled the state government to prepare in advance and resulted in no casualties. He mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in constant touch with CM Majhi to coordinate response efforts, and the central government was prepared to support with NDRAF teams, with BSF on standby. Pujari also praised the fire services and ODRAF for their exceptional response to the situation by deploying six ODRAF teams and five fire service teams in Malkangiri, effectively managing the crisis.

Regarding the impact of the floods, Pujari mentioned that 8,830 hectares of crop land were submerged, 576 houses were partially damaged, 21 homes were completely destroyed, and 15 roads were also damaged. He assured that measures are in place to ensure Malkangiri remains connected and accessible during natural disasters, with the state aiming to complete all necessary repairs and improvements by December 2025.
