The Odisha Transport Authority is urging for improved fire safety measures in school buses.

BHUBANESWAR : The State Transport Authority (STA) has instructed districts to ensure that school buses comply with fire safety regulations. The STA has mandated districts to oversee fire safety measures in school buses and conduct regular inspections of vehicles transporting students. Zonal deputy transport commissioners and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) will carry out regular bus inspections, and any vehicles found failing to comply with the regulations will face legal consequences. Transport commissioner Amitabh Thakur has also directed all RTOs to take strict action against violators. Motor vehicle inspectors have been tasked with ensuring fire safety compliance in their respective regions and canceling fitness certificates for buses that do not comply. "Negligence in ensuring the safety of young students will not be tolerated," he emphasized. According to section 125 C of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR)-1989, all school buses are required to adhere to proper fire safety measures.
