Kendrapada: Bhitarkanika National Park will be closed to tourists for ten days beginning January 2 to conduct its annual saltwater crocodile census.

The limitation, according to Rajnagar's senior forest officer Yajnadatta Pati, will assist prevent noise pollution and human meddling during the painstaking operation.

Under the direction of Dr Sudhakar Kar, a headcount of endangered estuarine crocodiles will be conducted in water bodies both inside and outside the national park. Tourists will not be permitted to enter the national park during this time, which will finish on January 11th.

The park is set to reopen on January 12th.
