Koraput: On Thursday, Jeypore Sadar Police seized a large amount of ganja and detained six people, including a home guard.
The arrested home guard, whose identity has yet to be released, comes from the Kolab region of Koraput district, near Jeypore.
On the basis of a tip, police launched searches and intercepted two trucks at various locations, according to sources. While one-tonne of ganja was taken from a truck, five quintals of contraband weighing 89 kg were discovered stacked in another 10-wheeler. The recovered ganja is estimated to be worth roughly Rs 1.5 crore in the market.
“Coal was loaded into one of the trucks. In addition, the accused persons' mobile phones, ATM cards, and other papers were seized,” said Jypore SDPO Arup Abhishek Behera.
He stated that the home guard and five other people were transporting ganja to other states.
