Bhubaneswar: According to the Health and Family Welfare department, at least 14.5 lakh beneficiaries in Odisha have not returned for their second dose of the COVID vaccine.

In the state, 2.07 crore dosages have been provided so far. The first dose affects 1.58 crore people, whereas the second dose affects 49 lakh people.

In a letter to the relevant authorities, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra stated that the Centre has set aside an additional 9,92,380 doses of Covishield and 1,24,590 doses of Covaxin for special campaigns in August to vaccinate all individuals who have missed their second dose. Government and private schoolteachers, as well as their family members, who have not received the first or second dosage of COVID-19 vaccine, will be vaccinated before September 5 at special sessions at COVID Vaccination Centres, he added.

The District Education Officers have been instructed to notify all schools in order to guarantee that teachers and their families receive vaccinations in a timely manner.

Malkagiri district has the greatest number of recipients who are due for a second dose vaccination, followed by Nabarangpur with 43% and Deogarh and Boudh with 40% apiece. In Bhubaneswar, only 8% of people missed the second shot.
