Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, as part of its zero-tolerance policy against corruption, placed five policemen on compulsory retirement on Tuesday for engaging in unethical behaviour.

An engineer, a police inspector, a revenue supervisor, an SDPO, and an Anganwadi supervisor are among the five officers who have been given notice of compulsory retirement. As a result of this, the government has suspended or retired 146 officials for engaging in corrupt practises.

An Assistant engineer of the ITDA, Baripada in Mayurbhanj, is one of the officers who has been given a mandatory retirement notice. He was arrested on suspicion of owning assets in excess of his recognised sources of income, which totaled Rs 2.8 crore. A two-story structure in Bhubaneswar, a flat in Sailashree Vihar, a half-constructed building in Kalinga Vihar, and three apartments in Balasore are among his possessions.

Sarala Dei, the SDPO of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur, was apprehended red-handed by Vigilance investigators while collecting a bribe of Rs 20,000. She has five home plots in Bhubaneswar, one plot in Pipili, and two more properties in Jagatsinghpur, according to the Vigilance raids.

Similarly, Pratima Sahu, an Anganwadi supervisor facing corruption charges, has been told to retire. While accepting gratification, she was also apprehended by Vigilance.

Inspector Ramchandra Behera of the Police Training College in Angul, who has been accused of inefficiency and indiscipline, has also been dismissed from the force.

Hrudanand Sahu, a revenue supervisor in the tehsildar office in Keonjhar district, is accused of corruption. While collecting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complaint, he was apprehended by the Vigilance.

A senior IFS officer and a senior IAS officer were recently suspended by the government on corruption suspicions.
