Bhubaneswar: For Indians stranded in Ukraine, Air India's evacuation flights are welcome news, but parents of numerous students from Odisha say they have yet to hear when their children would be able to board planes home.

Somya Ranjan Kar, a first-year MBBS student at Ukraine's Kharkiv National Medical University, is still in his hostel, waiting for evacuation orders. Although he is safe, his parents are concerned and have been having sleepless nights.

Kar is from the Sambalpur district's Burla. On Saturday, he intended to return.

Sangeeta, his mother, said he and other students were told to sleep in the hostel basement and not to turn on lights. They haven't had any food shortages thus yet.

"Somya assured us that he is in good health. However, no evacuation order has been issued as of yet. "They live in fear," she explained.

Md. Zaqi and Roshan Kumar Behera, two more Sambalpur students, are also in Ukraine. Shanti Naik, from the Kalahandi district, is another example. He is a Junagarh native who is studying his MBBS at Kharkiv National Medical University.
