BJP ended the 24-year-old rule of Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha after securing 78 seats in the 147-seat assembly in the 2024 state elections.
During a BJP membership drive in Odisha's Sundargarh district, a tribal woman insisted on giving ₹100 to BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda to "convey thanks" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts. Panda shared this incident on social media, along with photos, and Prime Minister Modi responded by expressing his gratitude for the woman's gesture. He mentioned that he is inspired by the blessings of 'Nari Shakti' and is committed to working towards building a 'Viksit Bharat'.
In the 2024 state elections in Odisha, the BJP ended the 24-year rule of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by securing 78 seats in the 147-seat assembly. The BJD got 51 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 74, while the Congress secured 14 seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won 20 out of the 21 parliamentary seats in the state, while the Congress won just one seat and the BJD did not secure any.
