On Wednesday, another man died after falling into an open drain in Barapathara, Odisha's Cuttack city, four days after a youth died in a similar mishap.

Cuttack: On Wednesday, another man died after falling into an open drain in Barapathara, Odisha's Cuttack city, four days after a youth died in a similar mishap.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased worked as a sanitary worker for the JICA project. Nrusingha Rao has been identified as the man.

When the incident occurred, he was cleaning near an open drain in the Barapathara area. He apparently slipped into the drain due to a slippery surface.

Locals attempted but failed to save him.  When the fire department was notified, they went to the scene and pulled him out. According to sources, Nrusingha was taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

On Saturday night, a 21-year-old youth was killed after falling into an open drain at Jhola Sahi in the city. Rahul, a Rajasthan native, was identified as the deceased. He was staying with relatives in this town.

According to sources, he slipped and fell into the drain while walking to a tea shop in the city, where several low-lying areas of Cuttack were flooded due to heavy rain. He died there and then. His father, who owns a tea stall in Puri, has filed a complaint with Purighat police in connection with the incident.
