Bus services likely to resume in the state

Bhubaneswar: Padmanabha Behera, the state's commerce and transportation minister, said on Wednesday that steps are being done to restore bus service across the state following the lockout.

On July 16, the current lockdown will come to an end.

He told reporters here that the Odisha Bus Owners' Association has sought regular bus service across the state from July 17.

In accordance with COVID-19 rules, the government authorised bus services to restart in 20 Category A areas where the test positivity percentage was less than 5% at the end of June.

Regarding the remaining ten districts, he stated that COVID caseloads have decreased in these areas, and the government will soon make a decision on bus service.

The minister went on to say that they are actively evaluating the association's request for a tax exemption.

The group had requested a tax exemption for the losses they had experienced as a result of the lockdown, which began on May 5. They also demanded a yearly interest-free loan of Rs one lakh for each employee, as well as other financial aid, and threatened to suspend bus services across the state if their demands were not met.
