Vigilance nabs Chandipur IIC, ASI for taking ₹50,000 bribe in Odisha

On Wednesday, the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Chandipur police station in Odisha's Balasore district were apprehended by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from the owner of a foreign liquor shop.

Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Chandipur police station in Odisha's Balasore district were apprehended by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from the owner of a foreign liquor shop.

Ganeswar Pradhan, IIC of Chandipur police station, and ASI Bali Mohanty were identified as the accused. Pradhan was also the IIC in charge of the Marine Police Station.

According to a Vigilance release, the two were apprehended while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 as monthly dole from a licensed IMFL off shop owner.

If he does not pay, the accused has threatened not to allow him to run his business. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from Bali Mohanty.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three Pradhan and Mohanty locations from the Disproportionate Assets angle.

A case has been filed, and an investigation is underway against both of the accused.
