Bhubaneswar: The conflict has erupted within the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) following the appointment of Jyotikant Parida alias Bapu, a close associate of notorious gangster Tito, as vice-president of the Jagatsinghpur district unit.

His appointment as a key functionary has sparked a squabble within the party, with Paradip MLA Sambit Routray expressing his displeasure with Bapu Parida's promotion. It was mentioned that Bapu's name appears in criminal cases.

Routray, pointing fingers at former Jagatsinghpur BJD president Prashant Muduli, said a list of party workers from all assembly constituencies in the district was submitted for selection of top positions in the party's district unit.

"I provided the list. "However, I am unaware of how Bapu Parida's name was included in the list for the party's important position," he said, accusing Muduli of recommending Bapu Parida's name for the district vice president position.

Routray claimed that several names were removed from the list he recommended, indicating that he had not recommended the name Parida. According to the legislator, only Muduli can explain why he recommended Parida's name for the important position.

The Paradip MLA, on the other hand, insisted that it is a BJD internal matter that will be investigated by the party's leadership.

Over 20 cases have been filed against Parida, who was also apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) in 2018.

Prashant Muduli and Bapu Parida were unavailable for comment immediately.
