Bhubaneswar: Sikta Pati, the late bureaucrat-turned-politician Pyarimohan Mohapatra's daughter, joined the Congress on Wednesday.

"With her (Sikta's) strong leadership skills and unwavering commitment to social justice, Dr Pati is a valuable addition to the party," the Odisha Congress wrote after her induction. Hello and welcome aboard! @SaratPatINC.”

At a special event (Mishran Parva) at the Congress Bhawan, she joined the grand old party in the presence of Odisha Congress in-charge A Chellakumar, OPCC president Sarat Kumar Pattanayak, and former OPCC president and senior leader Niranjan Patnaik.

Sikta joined the Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM), the party founded by her father, after Pyari's death on March 19, 2017, and became its Secretary-General. She joined the BJD in the presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2019.

"This was an opportunity to join a national political party" (INC). Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra influenced my decision to join the party. "I will carry out my responsibilities as assigned," Sikta stated.

She stated that while it was too early to predict the results of the 2024 general elections, the ruling party had reached a saturation point and people were looking for an alternative. "It's critical for people to understand which option is best for them," she says.

She said no when asked if she planned to run in the elections. "I don't have any plan to contest elections for the time being. "First and foremost, I want to work for the people," she added.
