Padampur By-poll result: Counting of votes begins
Bargarh: The counting of ballots for the by-election to the Padampur Assembly constituency in Odisha's Bargarh district began at 8 a.m. on Thursday in the RMC Ward in Padampur. It will decide the destiny of ten candidates, including Pradip Purohit of the BJP, Barsha Singh Bariha of the BJD, and Satya Bhusan Sahu of the Congress.
Postal ballots will be counted in the first round, while votes cast in 319 booths will be counted at 14 tables in each round, according to sources. There will be approximately 23 counting rounds.
According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani, each table would have three people: one counting supervisor, one counting helper, and the Central observer, who will be present during the counting.
After EVM counting, VVPAT slips from five randomly selected booths will be counted to cross-check the EVM statistics.
The vote will be counted under the supervision of the returning officer (RO), who will be assisted by one assistant returning officer (ARO). The ECI's general observer will also be present throughout to keep an eye on the counting procedure, according to Lohani. Two technical personnel will also be on hand at the counting center to assist in the event of any problems.
Notably, each candidate may appoint one agent for each table and one agent for counting postal ballots for the RO table. The candidate or his or her election agent may remain in the counting room.
Except for the returning officer and general observer, no one will be permitted to bring cellphones into the counting room.
Furthermore, substantial security preparations have been devised to distribute round-by-round results. A three-tiered security system will be in place to avoid any disruption or adverse incident during the counting.
The results will be announced on-site. They will also be accessible to the general public via the ECI portal.
