Sambalpur: In the early hours of Friday, at least seven members of a wedding party were killed and three others were critically injured when the vehicle carrying them skidded off the ebankment road into Sasan canal in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

Ajit Khamari, Dibya Luha, Suraj Sethi, Sumant Bhoi, Subrat Bhoi, Shatrughna Bhoi, and Umakant Bhuyan were among those who died. The seriously injured were taken to a hospital in Sambalpur.

According to sources, the body of the missing driver of the vehicle was later recovered by fire personnel.

On Thursday, the wedding party traveled from Badadhara in the Jharsuguda district to Paramanpur in the Sambalpur district.

The vehicle crashed off the Sasan canal road on the way home.

A police team arrived on the scene and began an investigation into the accident. More information is awaited.
