Bhubaneswar: Three minor boys, including two physically challenged brothers, were killed by snakebite in two separate incidents in Odisha on Tuesday morning.

The first incident occurred in Jangalikudar village, under the jurisdiction of the Deogarh police, when a venomous snake bit two differently-abled brothers, Gouranga Dehury (14) and Soubhagya Dehury (8), while they were sleeping on the floor of the house.

According to sources, they were rushed to the Deogarh district headquarters hospital but died during treatment.

In the second incident, a minor boy died and her mother was critically injured after being bitten by a venomous snake this morning in Katuria village, Kaptipada Tehsil, Mayurbhanj district.

This came just two days after three minor students, two of whom were girls, died after being bitten by a poisonous snake while staying in a hostel run by a private coaching center in Nischintpur village in Keonjhar district.

Following the incident, the Health and Family Welfare Department issued an advisory on Monday, directing Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) to keep an adequate stock of anti-venom drugs at community health centers. The Education Department has been directed to keep school grounds clean, and schools have been instructed to take precautionary measures to keep snakes away from premises.
